My name is Meredith Hale-Griffin. My own life's pursuit is devoted to helping people make the right choices to live well. And I aim to practice what I preach. It is through my personal struggles that I found my passion. Like millions of others, I was a victim of diet fads, poor habits, and society's fixation on outward beauty. I saw the negative impact chronic disease had on friends and family, and I felt powerless to do much about it. This propelled me to further my education in wellness and exercise so that maybe someday I could help people.
After gaining more education, I began teaching at colleges throughout the Valley and continued to guide young athletes as a local college sports performance coach. These experiences amplified the realization that something needed to be done urgently to change the course of achieving healthy living habits in this country. There are myths to dispel, programs to build, techniques to demonstrate, experiences to share, hope to spread, and massive, life-changing results to achieve.
It all starts with learning how to make the right choices.
Today chronic disease like heart disease, diabetes, and cancer are the leading causes of death in this country. Most of these illnesses are the result of obesity, physical inactivity, and unhealthy habits. The good news is that most of these diseases are preventable if we begin making positive lifestyle practices one-choice at a time. And just as disease prevention is critical, so is the need to train and educate our young athletes about proper strength and conditioning techniques, and overall wellness.
Healthy merely implies the absence of disease, whereas wellness is a state of complete harmony of the body, mind and soul. It is about strengthening self-appreciation and focusing on all facets of being. It is about making small steps for big gains. It's simply feeling good about you and who you are.
Let's start by setting higher standards of life, love, creativity, and wisdom. If our expectations in these areas are low, we are not likely to experience wellness.
